The problem

Finding a suitable venue demands considerable time, effort, and emotional strain.

The goal

Make finding a wedding venue easy and fun-filled experience.

the PROCESS

START WITH THE USER

I started by conducting interviews with people who had personal experience planning weddings for themselves or someone close to them. These interviews helped me understand the struggles and needs they faced. To analyse the findings, I created empathy maps to identify different user groups. One primary group I identified was average-paid individuals who face the challenge of finding an affordable wedding venue that fits within their limited budget. This often leads to stress and anxiety. Another group was highly-paid individuals who considered their wedding day special but lacked time to look all over the internet, send inquiries and emails and visit the location. The research revealed that both user groups experienced frustrations when communicating with venues. Booking appointments and obtaining clear information proved to be difficult, causing additional stress. Moreover, the users faced time constraints, with limited availability. Additionally, there was frustration in finding available venues that aligned with their planned wedding dates.

 USERS PAIN POINTS

Stress

The pressure and anxiety experienced by users, particularly in the average-paid group, when trying to find an affordable wedding venue within their budget is a significant pain point. The stress arises from the challenge of balancing their desires and financial constraints while ensuring a memorable wedding experience.

Time Constraints

Both user groups, especially the highly-paid individuals, face the pain point of limited time availability. Due to their busy schedules and other commitments, they struggle to allocate sufficient time to look up wedding venues, contact them, and visit them. This constraint adds pressure and can lead to feelings of overwhelm and frustration.

Venues Availability

The difficulty of finding available wedding venues that align with the desired wedding dates is another pain point. This challenge is commonly faced by both user groups and can lead to frustration and disappointment when venues are already booked, limiting their options and potentially delaying their planned wedding timeline.

LETS MEET NINA AND MARCEL

The research produced two personas, Nina and Marcel, representing user groups. These personas go beyond pain points, incorporating rich background, contextual information, and direct quotes to convey user needs and foster empathy. They play a vital role in guiding our design process, ensuring we address their unique needs effectively.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE NINA'S AND MARCEL'S EXPERIENCE?

Mapping Nina’s user journey showed that there is opportunities to search venues by availability and price. Marcel’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be to offer direct communication and consulting possibilites with venue.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE COMPETITORS?

I analysed some direct and indirect competitors. This helped to know where other apps stand and focus on offering unique value.

LET’S. SKETCH OUR IDEAS

To begin visualising possible ideas , I created rough sketches that outline the main screens and flows for finding available wedding venues. Each screen in this sequence receives multiple variations, detailing how it would appear and which interactive elements are present.

Once the main flows were decided upon, and the primary interactive elements were clarified in the sketches, I proceeded to create digital wireframes. These wireframes will serve as the foundation for a digital prototype to be tested by users.

TIME TO GO DIGITAL
PUT ASSUMPTIONS TO TEST

I did two rounds of user testing one on the low fi prototype and later on another one on the high fi prototype as you will see in the next step. The objective of the prototype testing is to identify and evaluate the usability and ease of use of the main user flow. The main user flow involves the user searching for venues in a specific city and date using the search bar. After finding a venue that meets their criteria, the user is prompted to take action, such as booking an appointment, contacting/viewing the venue, or proceeding with an immediate booking.. Following are the results of the first round:

People wanted a more flexible search

search and suggestions should offer flexible inputs (city, a region, or a location type).

People are interested only in exploring customisations at this stage

Customisations options should be only for browsing.

GOING HIGH FIDELITY

In crafting the wedding app's user experience, I went with an elegant color palette, using light gold (#F5CD83) as the primary color and accentuating it with shades of olive brown (#6F5F36), dark brown (#574f39) and deep blue (#3869A8). This harmonious combination, complemented by the thoughtful choice of fonts, Montserrat for headlines and sub-lines and Open Sans for paragraphs, results in a visually appealing and cohesive interface.

Usability study: Round 2 findings

user wanted to be able to select date range or specific dates

Users liked that a real contact person is on the venue side and the time he needs to reply.

User wanted the possibility to save and share venues
